Human Rights court to hear KKD’s bail application today

An Accra Human Rights Court will today hear the bail application brought by lawyers for ace broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) who is standing trial for rape.

The case which is being heard at the Justice Kofi Essel-Mensah Court, was adjourned last week because the prosecution requested and was granted time to go through a 34 paragraph affidavit submitted by the defense.

KKD’s first court appearance was at a Magistrate Court in Accra, Tuesday December 30, 2014 following his arrest and detention for alleged sexual assault against a 19-year-old girl.

Rape according to Ghana’s laws is a non-bailable offence and convicted rapists risk between five and 25 years in prison.
