BECE takes off smoothly in Ho District

A total of 4, 500 students in the Ho District are listed to take part in the 2003 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which commenced throughout the country today.

Ms Susan Aniewu, Assistant Director of Planning, of the Ho District Education Office told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that all the materials for the 20 centres in the district have been distributed on schedule.

There was tight security at all the centres visited by the GNA as the police politely disallowed passers-by and visitors.

A total of 1,680 students are on roll to take the exams at the five centres in Ho.

Nine candidates, seven of them girls were absent at five centres.

Miss Anastasia Kukanu, Supervisor at the OLA Secondary School Centre “B” told the GNA that one of the candidates, Master Kingsley Gamor, student of Ho Bankoe E.P JSS was deceased.

No incidents of impersonation and cheating were recorded at the time the GNA visited the centres.

Supervisors at the centres told the GNA that the exams had started without any problems saying, comportment of the candidates was so far good.
