Gukpe-Naa calls for peaceful cerebration of Damba

The Gukpe-Naa, Naa Alhassan Abdulai, Paramount Chief of Tamale, has appealed to the people of Tamale to celebrate the Damba Festival peacefully to sustain the current peace to facilitate the development of the area.

He said the Damba Festival has been preserved to celebrate and deepen Dagbon’s sense of identity, and unity of purpose, to develop the area.

The Gukpe-Naa made the appeal at a press conference to throw more light on the celebration of the festival and to solicit media support to make the celebration successful.

He said a section of the public, especially the youth, sometimes take undue advantage of the celebration, to engage in diversionary activities that often mar the relevance of the festival, and stressed the importance of peace and tranquility in Dagbon.

“I hereby impress upon all in the Metropolis and beyond, to celebrate this year’s festival in the true spirit of our cherished cultural heritage. We should use this year’s Damba festival to portray our rich, beautiful and unique culture to the people of the outside world, to lure in more investors,” he said.

He said attempts to woo investors into the Tamale Metropolis would remain a mirage if the people failed to allow peace to prevail, and admonished all stakeholders in the region to do away with unnecessary strains, and team up with the traditional leaders and security agencies to maintain.

He announced the establishment of an Educational Fund, to mobilize resources to finance the education of the less privileged in the area, and appealed to all to contribute to the Fund when launched.
