Metro Mass to lose Ghc60,000 monthly

The Metro Mass Transit Limited will lose about GH¢60, 000 as it rolls out the discount program for elderly passengers.

The MMT is offering a 50 percent discount to elderly passengers as a result of the newly-introduced elderly welfare cards.

The EBAN card is an initiative of the Gender Ministry and United Nations Population Fund.

Marketing Manager for the MMT, Raphael Sackey in an interview with Starr News said the losses will greatly affect the company’s operations.

“It is going to affect us seriously because the last analysis we did, we were losing about six hundred million [old] Ghana cedis monthly,” Sackey said adding “I think government will reciprocate by providing concessions”.

Meanwhile, the Gender Ministry has revealed that, the transport companies will not be reimbursed for the loss.

The deputy minister, Alexander John Ackon told Starr News, companies owe it a corporate social responsibility to render such service.
