Court grants bail to robbery suspect

A man who allegedly attacked the cashier of the S.O Frimpong Transport Company, with two accomplices and made away with an unspecified amount of money was on Tuesday granted GH¢80,000.00 bail with a surety.

He appeared before a circuit court in Kumasi.

The accused had spent about two months in prison custody.

The court earlier discharged the accused, Bashiru Abass, alias “Bash” and one other person Nana Adjei on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

Bash is now to answer for the offence of causing unlawful harm and would reappear in court on Monday, January 19.

Police Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor told the court, presided over Mr William Boampong, that the accused together with Adjei and another person, on the run, attacked the victim at a lorry park at Akwatialine in Kumasi on September 30, last year.

Bash and his colleagues allegedly ordered the cashier, Lydia Serwaa Adu, to bring out the day’s returns on the sale of tickets to travellers.

She was said to have resisted upon which the accused gave her some slaps and hit her with a chair, which resulted injuries on the forehead.

The group forcibly opened and carried away the money.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and a formal complaint was made to the police.

The prosecution said Bash went into hiding after the crime and was arrested from his hideout on a tip-off.
