Ghana needs a “presidential initiative for attitudinal change”

A former Member of the Council of State is advocating what he describes as a “Presidential Initiative for Attitudinal Change,” to help deepen the sense of patriotism in the citizenry.

Reverend Dr. Nii Amoo Darku said the general sense of patriotism had declined amongst the people over the years, citing the lack of sustained orientation of the masses on the cherished values and norms of the society.

“I think we need an initiative from the Presidency to reinvigorate in the Ghanaian the desire to do what is right in all endeavours, to achieve our development goals and objectives as a nation,” he stated.

The former Council of State Member indicated that the incidence of corrupt practices, lukewarm attitude to work, non-adherence to civic responsibilities and duties and other negative practices borne out of indiscipline, ought to be addressed.

Reverend Dr. Nii Darku, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Kumasi, observed that most principles of society which made the country the beacon of hope amongst the comity of nations in the Sub-Saharan Africa had “diminished”.

Sharing his views on the New Year, he appealed to Ghanaians to be truthful, honest and shun greed and divisive tendencies to put the nation on the course of prosperity in all sectors of the economy.

The people, he added, must also eschew back-biting and ethnocentrism, and work assiduously in their various capacities to improve their well-being.
