Banks demanding accounts before NSS persons are paid

Personnel of the National Service Scheme (NSS) have been asked by the commercial banks to open an account with them before their monthly allowances could be paid.

According to the banks, it is much easier to pay the allowances through opened accounts.

However, the Acting Executive Director of the NSS, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte said on Monday in Accra that there is no such agreement between the scheme and the banks.

He said opening an account with a bank should be the free will of the personnel.

A service personnel, Theresa Aidoo, complained about the stress she had to go through to access her money since the personnel had early on been asked to open e-zwich accounts.

According to Edna Quansah, another personnel, the banks are sapping them of the meagre allowance they have worked for.
