The 2012 presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwersi Nduom has said 2014 has been a “most difficult” year for Ghana.
“It has been an exceptionally challenging year for business owners and managers as they have tried to navigate the rough economic times without help from any quarter,” the businessman-turned-politician wrote on his Facebook wall.
Nduom commended local entrepreneurs and businesspeople who braced the economic challenges and stuck to their home country despite the economic difficulties.
“I salute the Ghanaian entrepreneurs and the managers who have forged ahead and invested their monies right here at home with the hope that a brighter future is ahead of us.
“God bless each and every one of them and reward their actions with success. And God bless the Ghanaian workers who labour diligently reward them with better wages and a just pension,” he prayed.
Wishing Ghanaians a stronger and more prosperous 2015, he said: “I wish to join together with all Ghanaians to give thanks to God Almighty for His grace, guidance and forgiveness. Through all our challenges, He has kept this country together.”
Unfortunately, he observed, “many of my wishes for 2014 were not fulfilled. So I am repeating them with the hope that 2015 will see most of them if not all come true:
1. That all of us in leadership positions in the country will work hard to improve the living conditions of workers, the poor, aged and children.
2. That when we the people complain about difficulties that confront us as we live in our own country, leaders in government will show us some respect and talk to us in a manner that will give us hope for a better tomorrow.
3. That President John D. Mahama will support the people’s wish for the 1992 Constitution to be amended to allow the people to elect their own District/Municipal/Metropolitan Chief Executives.
4. That President John D. Mahama will ensure that the 1992 Constitution is amended to separate the Office of Attorney-General from the Ministry of Justice so that an Independent Prosecutor can lead a serious effort in the war against corruption.
5. That our countrymen and women will find it in their hearts to support Ghanaian enterprises to become stronger, more prosperous and that our government will support them through the judicious use of its purchasing power.
6. That politicians will focus on developing the country and improving the people’s standard of living in 2015 instead of looking ahead to the 2016 elections.
I wish all Ghanaians good health, tolerance for each other’s opinions and a good life in 2015.
