‘Put premium on environmental sanitation’

Mr. Julius Debrah, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, has asked Ghanaians to put premium on environmental sanitation to prevent diseases.

He said there should be a radical change in our attitude towards keeping our communities clean.

The situation, where people indiscriminately litter, dump garbage into open drains, streams and at unapproved points would have to cease to restore sanity.

Mr. Debrah made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the chief of Asiwa, Nana Agyei Brempong III, during an official tour of the Bosome-Freho District.

The Minister, his two deputies and top officials of his Ministry, are in the Ashanti Region for two-weeks to interact with the people and the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, to strengthen local governance.

They are also using the period to inspect on-going projects being implemented to transform the lives of the people.

He said it was important for all to accept to do the right but very simple things to stay healthy and to save the nation cost in dealing with sanitation problems.

He commended the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Kwame Adarkwah, for the good job he was doing to bring progress to the people.

Mr. Samuel Sarpong, the Ashanti Regional Minister, said the people would have to revisit the practice in the past where they organized communal labour to clean their surroundings periodically.

He pledged to supply 300 waste bins to the Asiwa Community to help stop the littering of the streets with plastics and other waste materials.

He urged the people to support the district assembly to implement its development agenda for the area.
