Christmas fever grips Accra

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday observed that Christmas fever has gripped the capital city of Accra as there were many activities going on.

Apart from the various markets that were chocked with both traders, buyers and vehicles, the lorry stations were also choked with many travelers.

At the VIP Bus Terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle for instance, there were long queues of passengers travelling to Kumasi who were waiting for buses.

The situation was, however, different at the Neoplan Station, as there were no queues even though travelers were briskly boarding the available buses to their various destinations.

Mr Eric Botwe, Transport Manager at the VIP Bus Terminal, told the GNA that the long queues at the station was as a result of the non-availability of its Tour Buses which charged lower fares to Kumasi.

He said the VIP had two different buses that plied the Accra-Kumasi road and while the Tour Bus charges GH¢ 250, the other buses charged GHC 350.

He said most passengers preferred the Tour Bus hence the long queues, assuring however that many of such buses had been recalled from Kumasi to pick the passengers.

At the Neoplan Station, Mr John Awuah, Welfare Chairman, said drivers were making some money as a result of the festive season.

“The emergence of mobile phone has led to many people not traveling frequently but we are still hoping to make more money during this yuletide as people are expected to travel to celebrate the Christmas with their loved ones,” he said.
