PPP to hold National Congress in March 2015

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has announced plans to hold its national executive elections in March 2015.

The party is yet to complete its regional elections after which the national elections will be held.

The regional elections were stalled because some of its members dragged the party to court seeking to challenge the current national executives whom they accused of overstaying their term of office.

After an out of court settlement was reached, the party resumed the organization of the regional elections which is expected to be completed by January 2015.

The General Secretary of the PPP, Kofi Asamoah-Siaw told Citi News, that there will be a national convention after the national election in April 2015.

He explained that the party was initially “supposed to have completed that [regional elections] process by December 2014 but because of that issue [court case], we have to now plan to complete the outstanding seven regional elections by January 2015.”

The party has tentatively scheduled end of March 2015, to complete national officers’ election.

“In April, we will have the national convention that we were supposed to have had in December after the regional conferences so that is our schedule so far.”

Regarding the expansion of the PPP’s Electoral College, Mr. Asamoah-Siaw said the party has the biggest Electoral College in Ghana.

He explained saying, “in our party, any card bearing member who is good standing is qualified to vote in any election at all levels.”
