Christians must shun hypocrisy – Presiding Bishop

The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has challenged Christians to lead lives that bear testimony of the principles and tenets of the Bible.

He said Christians were enjoined to be truthful, honest, disciplined and avoid double standards in their endeavours to foster social harmony and the growth of Christendom.

“Christianity is not a time wasting business,” he said, adding that by following biblical doctrines adherents of the religion would be in a position to serve as agents of change to improve the lives of the people.

“The fact that one goes to church does not make one a Christian. We ought to go beyond that by leading productive lives that were in harmony with God’s own commandments,” he said.

Most Rev. Prof. Asante was addressing a thanksgiving service in honour of Mr Kwame Boafo, on his election as the Lay President of Conference, MCG, at the Adum Wesley Cathedral, Kumasi.

It was on the theme: “Nothing is Impossible with God”.

Mr Boafo, a Legal Practitioner, and an ardent member of the church, was recently given the nod as the 17th Lay President and the sixth since the MCG went Episcopal.

For many years Mr Boafo has personally and through his legal firm represented the church in legal suits at various levels and also provided members with legal advice and services gratis.

Until his election, Mr Boafo served the church in various capacities, ranging from a chorister to evangelist.

Most Reverend Asante asked the Lay President to continue to work hard to enhance sustainable progress of Methodism.

Mr Boafo said he would work within the rules and regulations of the laity and the church in general to achieve their mission statement.
