Cocaine saga: Dawood, five other suspects granted bail

An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to businessman Alhaji Dawood and five others suspected to have aided Nayele Ametefeh to transport 12kg of cocaine to the UK.

The court presided over by Justice Francis Obiri granted the sextet bail in the sum of Gh¢100,000 each with three sureties – one to be justified. According to Starr News’ Wilberforce Asare, who was in court, one of the sureties must be a public servant who earns a net salary between Gh¢1000 to Gh¢1500.

They are to report to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) once a week between 1pm and 4pm.

The accused persons include Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Sandra Nuhu and three other officials of the Kotoka International Airport. They are facing charges for the role they played in aiding Ametefeh to transport 12kg of drugs.

Alhaji Dawood, the Development Manager of KELM Engineering, based in Kanda has been accused of facilitating Nayele’s access through the VIP section at the Kotoka International Airport.

The two other ladies were reported to have travelled with Ametefeh but absconded after she was arrested in UK while the others are officials of the ministry of foreign affairs who aided with their VIP Lounge passage at the airport.

The case has been adjourned until January 7, 2015.
