Cocoa farmers in the Nyinahin District have appealed to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to re-open the Cocoa Services Division (CSD) office at Nyinahin that was closed down some years ago.
The farmers said the re-opening of the office would solve the problem of traveling to Nkawie, about 37 kilometres to collect hybrid cocoa pods and other inputs for their farms.
Opanin Yaw Bronya, Nyinahin District Chief Farmer, who made the call when he addressed a meeting of cocoa farmers drawn from about 60 communities at Nyinahin, said ever since the office was closed down farmers in the area had found it difficult to get their inputs readily.
He called on the COCOBOD to make it possible for farmers to obtain its scholarship forms at Nyinahin to save them from traveling long distances to collect the forms.
Opanin Bronya praised the government for giving recognition to cocoa farmers by increasing the producer price of cocoa and introducing the mass cocoa spraying exercise.
He commended Mr Charles Yeboah, Atwima District Chief Executive for his continued assistance to farmers in the area and appealed to the district assembly to re-construct the bridge spanning the Adosu stream on the Nyinahin-Adupri road since school children found it difficult to cross it anytime it rained.
