Police MTTU prosecutes 30 drivers in Tarkwa

The Tarkwa Nsueam Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD), of the Ghana Police Service has prosecuted 30 drivers within three days for reckless driving and other road offences.

Out of the number, 16 were convicted and fined a total of 3,804 Ghana cedis, while one was warned and discharged.

A bench warrant was also issued by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for the arrest of eleven drivers and two were remanded.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Divisional Commander of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD), Commander for the municipality, Assistant Supreintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Honu-Broni said the three days exercise was jointly organized by MTTU personnels from Sekondi- Takoradi and Tarkwa because of the fraudulent possession of document by some drivers.

He said the drivers who were prosecuted were arrested for possession of fake driving license, driving under the influence of alcohol, defective vehicles, expire insurance certificates and non-renewal of driving license.

ASP Honu-Broni called on drivers to always have warning triangles, spare tyres, wipers and fire extinguishers on their vehicles.

The MTTD Commander appealed to drivers in the municipality to avoid wrongful overtaking and over speeding to help prevent accidents during the Christmas festivities.
