Joyce Dzidzor Mensah–the lady at the centre of the raging HIV debacle–has said she won’t be surprised if the National AIDS Commission in an attempt to prove that she truly suffers from the virus shows up a fake HIV report on her.
The 27-year-old mother of two, who has been an Ambassador for the Ghana Aids Commission (GAC) in the fight against discrimination against people living with HIV, recently told News-One that she never tested positive for the disease.
Per the AIDS Commission’s regulations, only HIV-positive persons can be Ambassadors in the “Heart to Heart” campaign.
Dzidzor Mensah, who confessed to faking her status just to help in the national fight against discrimination against persons living with HIV status said she is sorry for deceiving the country.
The AIDS Commissions maintains, Dzidzor tested positive for the virus in 2007 and still carries the virus. They have, however, declined to make public her medical records to counter her claims as a result of doctor-patient confidentiality.
Speaking on Adom FM, Tuesday, Dzidzor said she knows the Commission can easily secure a report from a medical center that can counter her claims, if it wants to.
“Ghana AIDS Commission is under the office of the President so I still respect them for that….So today if they say they have evidence, somebody can easily print something,” she said.
She added: “If they say they have evidence, I won’t be surprised because this is Ghana and the Ghana AIDS Commission is a very big institution and it’s been two years since they terminated my contract, and I decided not to pursue the matter”.
