Prez Mahama retained as ECOWAS Chairman

President John Dramani Mahama has been retained as the Chairman of the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) till May 2015, as reported earlier by Peacefmonline.com.

This is due to the excellent leadership traits he exhibited as leader of the sub-region.

The decision was taken at a closed door meeting held by the Heads of state at the 46th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja, Nigeria.

According to Peace FM’s Presidential Correspondent, William Gentu, the participating Heads of State and Government of the regional body are expected to be briefed on recent developments in Burkina Faso and on how to improve the social and political climate of the region and the need to marshal forces to the fight against Ebola.

They will also review the report of the 33rd Meeting of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council, he says.

Also on the agenda of the summit are the consideration and adoption of the 2014 annual report of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, and the consideration and adoption of the report of the 73rd Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers.

A communiqué on the summit’s decisions is expected at the conclusion of their deliberations.
