Two Ghanaian stowaways have been arrested in Spain and have been repatriated to Ghana for prosecution.
The two – Nicholas Acheampong, 19, and a welder and Justice Nana Woode, 23, an electrician – were brought back to Ghana through the Takoradi Harbour in the Western Region.
According to preliminary investigations carried out by the Takoradi Marine Police, the duo left the West African country through the same port onboard MV Maesk Volta.
They managed to hide in the vessel and successfully arrived in Spain, but Woode got ill on the high seas and feared he may die hence he had to come out from hiding to seek medical treatment, Starr News’ Western Regional Correspondent Emmanuel Ohene Gyan reported Sunday.
Upon his arrest, he disclosed that Acheampong was also aboard the vessel leading to their arrest and subsequent deportation to Ghana in the same vessel to face the law.
“Acheampong’s parents are livid with Woode for his action because they believed it was time for their wards to breakthrough,” Gyan said.
Meanwhile, two others are in the grip of the Takoradi Marine Police for trying to stowaway through the same port. They were arrested on Saturday night and the police is yet to make their names public.
