Ministry Accounts For Police Endowment Fund

Following a publication in CHRONICLE that the Police Endowment Fund could not be accounted for, the Ministry of the Interior has given detailed information about the fund.

It says the fund really does exist and no one has tampered with it as it was envisaged previously.

The Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Barnes, who gave this explanation, said not a single withdrawal has been made from the funds because the ministry is interested in utilizing the interest that would be generated from the fund in financing projects.

The fund, he said, has been lodged with the ADB and has accumulated about 508,262 million cedis, which the paper had the opportunity to lay hands on its bank statement.

Mr. Barnes noted however, that the delay in furnishing CHRONICLE with the facts concerning the fund was due to the fact that some of the pledges made by some of the donors have not been redeemed therefore, it was very difficult to provide the accurate figure.
