Communities urged to revive communal labour spirit

The Executive Director of The Young Shall Grow International (TYSGI), Mr Silvanus Vordzorgbe has observed that the waning communal spirit among Ghanaians is retarding the growth and development of the nation.

He said there is the need for Ghanaians to revive their commitment to community development by ensuring that they voluntarily participate in every facet of developmental agenda in their communities.

Mr Vordzogbe made the call during a visit by supporters of Burnley Football Club of the United Kingdom at a ceremony to present jerseys, teaching and learning materials to Dedzidi Community Preparatory school at Anloga in the Volta Region.

The Burnley Football Charity Club was in the country with support from African Adventure an NGO from the UK and TYSG to construct classrooms for more than 400 pupils clustered in school.

Apart from participating in the actual construction work, the club also donated 100 bags of cement, assorted items including teaching and learning materials and jerseys to the school.

The Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association, Pastor Trinity Joe Dartey urged parents to take good care of their wards and ensure that they keep proper hygienic conditions.

The NGO since its establishment in the country has supported the education, health and tourism sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

It has so far supported Tegbi E.P. Primary, Woe E.P, Christ the King Preparatory School at Kportorgbe at Anloga, Rhema LA Basic School at Woe, with various forms of support including building of school canteen, donation of assorted books, toys, and volunteers among others. A clinic project is ongoing at Bomigo.

TYSGI is also sponsoring a number of needy but brilliant pupils to enable them pursue their academic desires.

The body is currently sponsoring one of the students at the University of Cape Coast. It has so far received volunteers from the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Germany.
