Mahama leaves for Kenya

President John Dramani Mahama is heading to Kenya Thursday morning as a special guest at their 51st Independence Anniversary Celebration.

The event falls on Friday December 12, 2014.

President Mahama will spend three days in Nairobi at the invitation of President Uhuru Kenyatta. The visit is also aimed at rekindling “the fraternal bond and relations” between his father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah – Ghana’s first president.

Discussions between the two African leaders is expected to focus on how Ghana and Kenya, both bulwarks in West and East Africa respectively, can influence a new agenda of increased trade among African countries, a statement from the Flagstaff House said.

President Mahama, chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and President Kenyatta, chair of the East African Community (EAC) will also share their perspectives on how to drive the African renaissance and integration process.

President Mahama will visit the Mzee Jomo Kenyatta Mausoleum and meet with the United Nations staff in Kenya. In the evening of Friday, the President will meet and interact with the Ghanaian community in Kenya.
