Korea ready to support Ghana

Mr Lyeo Woom-Ki, the Republic of Korean Ambassador, has assured of his country’s readiness to support Ghana in her developmental effort.

He also maintained that Korean would continue to be a good partner to Ghana and support the country in every aspect of her progress.

Mr Woom-Ki gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy call on Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

The discussion between the two men focused on strengthening economic cooperation.

Mr Woom-Ki who is on a duty tour of the country replaces Mr Kyun Jea-min.

Trade volumes between Ghana and Korea rose to $395 million last year, with Korea importing cocoa and fish from Ghana and exporting spare parts and cars to Ghana.

In 2011, Korea designated Ghana and Nigeria as its two priority destinations in West Africa for its Overseas Development Assistance (ODA).

The ODA grant from Korea to Ghana has doubled since 1991, amounting to $ 24.18 million from 1991 to 2014.

Mr Woom-Ki stated that Ghana and Korea has a long standing relationship and as the new Ambassador for Korea, he would do his best to advance the relations to higher level thereby contributing his quota to the nation’s development.

He said international cooperation between the two countries has grown steadily since Korea first established diplomatic relations with Ghana in 1977.

He said Ghana and Korea have developed close ties in various fields of endeavour since both countries have similar historical background.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur said relations between the two countries has grown and urged the new ambassador to lift the level co-operation to a higher height.

He said Ghana would continue to learn lessons from Korea’s model of development since both countries have comparable experience.

He said there are many areas where the two countries could work together for the mutual benefit of their people.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur also expressed hope that two nations could improve relations through sports exchanges.
