Ghanaians disrespect “law” & “order” – Mike Ocquaye

A former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye has stated that Ghanaians by their nature “have such disrespect for law and order”.

In his view, until Ghanaians begin to appreciate the essence of laws and order in an organised society, morals and individual conducts will continue to deteriorate.

“We have such disrespect for law and order.”

“ And I believe that unless we really tighten laws in this country, life will be terrible for us, because even our neighbours obey laws,” the former legislator told the media at the second memorial lecture of the late Vice President , Aliu Mahama in Accra , Tuesday.

Ocquaye added : “Society is law and I think that from our basic laws, rules and regulations, from the district levels , the local and national laws are not working properly, like when I came into this country in in early 70s as a lawyer; all those laws that permeated our societies must come back”

“And I think they must come back because human beings are such that unless the law bites, there will be disorder,” he stated.
