Link Yagaba to national grid or face my wrath – MP warns Buah

MP for Yagaba/Kobore Ussif Mustapha says he will report the Energy Minister to Parliament’s Government Assurances Committee if he fails to connect five communities in the Mamprugu Moaduri District of the Northern region to the national grid.

Mustapha said though the five communities had been wired before the 2012 general elections, they remain in the dark.

“No single community in my district is connected to the national grid, so I am happy fifteen other communities will also be considered under the rural electrification programme,” Mustapha said in an interview with STARR FM’s Parliamentary correspondent Kobby Gomez Mensah. He said due to the absence of electricity in the area, residents are unable to run even cottage industries.

“People complain of girls in my constituency drifting here [Accra] as Kayayes [itinerant porters], but without power to mash kenkey or sell iced water, what should they do in the dry season when there is nothing to do,” the law maker said.

“It is unfortunate that my district had been sidelined for years and it is about time some attention is focused on the area.”
