The next time there is a fire outbreak, the nearby fire hydrant might be found dry and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) would be rendered incapable of extinguishing the fire.
This is because some fire service personnel illegally draw the water meant for fire fighting from the hydrants and discreetly sell to consumers to make money.
At least that is the impression one sub-officer Dankwa and other firemen have created in a scandal.
At the time resident of Adenta are blaming the Ghana Water Company Limited for water shortages in their community, it has been found out that some personnel of the GNFS have been tapping water from fire hydrants there and selling it secretly.
Last Thursday, two fire tenders, with registration numbers FS 315 and, FS 307, were spotted tapping water from just in front of the house of the Deputy Minister of the Interior. When some concerned citizens traced what the drivers were using the water for, they were caught red-handed selling the water to some residents at Ashaley Botwe, another suburb which border Adenta.
Fire tenders have been frequenting the area on Thursdays to tap water from the hydrant. This has resulted into unreasonable water shortages on that day, when the area is supposed to have a field day in the supply of water during the week.
