Actress Raped In Kumasi

A 30 year old Nigerian film stage director of Babbys Theatre and Arts Company in Kumasi has been arrested for allegedly raping a 22 year old actress at the premises of GNTC at Adum in Kumasi.

The suspect Austin Achinedu is in police custody and is expected to appear before the Kumasi Circuit Court on Friday, 21st March 2003. In an interview with the Asante Regional Police Public Relations, constable Gideon Boateng said, the suspect who is also a freelance writer and the victim are both workers of Babbys Theatre and Arts Company.

He said on the 7th of March 2003, at about 7pm during one of their rehearsals, the victim was directed by the suspect to act like a girl who is interested in a man, but failed to do so, with an explanation that, she is a virgin so she was not used to that. Constable Boateng said, after the rehearsals, and the victim was on her to her residence, the suspect who could not control his sexual desire, monitored her steps and on reaching the GNTC quarters, forcibly grabbed the victim and had sex with her.
