Every Ministry To Have A Website – Jake

The Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs, Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, has stated that with the emergence of e-governance, government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) should develop their own websites to enable them access information from the internet.

He explained that the strategy was in line with the ‘Communication Development Policy’ being pursued vigorously to help with the easy flow of information from one ministry to the other and for journalists as well.

He made the remarks when the United States Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Mary Carlin Yates, paid a courtesy call on him in his office recently.

The minister added that the “Freedom of Information Act” which was being pursued would come into force next year.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey noted it is the media that would enforce the government’s call for the Zero Tolerance for Corruption, because for the press which will carry the message across to the general public and act as a check as well.

Her Excellency expressed her delight at the repeal of the “Criminal libel Law” and said “there is nothing like a free press”.

Mrs. Yates was full of praise for the role of the Busy Internet in Accra and commended the excellent advancement in information sharing technology in the country which she said was at its best

The Ambassador disclosed that she has been in the field of Public Relations for some time and would meet with the spokespersons and Public Relations Officers of the various ministries to teach them some few old tricks in the field.

Mrs. Yates was later conducted round the Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre at the ministry.
