Oye Lithur visits Swedru boys Correctional Center

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, has paid a working visit to the Agona Swedru Junior Boys Correctional Center.

She was accompanied by Mrs Queenster Pokuaah Sawyer, Deputy Central Regional Minister and MP for Agona East.

The Center has 11 inmates and 300 regular students made up of 220 boys and 80 girls pursing vocational and technical courses.

Addressing the students Nana Oye Lithur urged them to take their studies seriously to enable them become good future leaders in the society.

She said everything possible would be done to re-instate the Institute to participate in the Agona West Ghana Education Service (GES) Annual Sporting Activities after 30 years ban for alleged misconduct.

She said the government would ensure that adequate infrastructure would be provided to the Institute to promote effective teaching and learning.

Mrs Sawyer said plans were far advanced to rehabilitate the abandoned toilet facility at the school.

Mrs Sawyer said the Agona West Municipal and Agona East District Assemblies had failed to give assistance to the Agona Swedru Correctional Center.

Mr Bernard Banazi, the Principal of the Agona Swedru Junior Correctional Center and National Vocational Training Institute, said for over two years the government had not been able to give the institute subvention to operate.

He said the School lacks adequate classrooms, means of transport, computer laboratory, library and others needed for affective running of the institute.
