World Vision, Ghana (WVG), an international non-governmental organization, has donated a quantity of sanitary pads, and as many as 3,808 pairs of shoes for distribution to pupils of selected basic schools in four districts of the Northern Region.
WVG has also donated medical supplies, including anaesthetic accessories, bed pans, bed sheets, syringes, bowls, bleach gauze, cotton rolls and balls, cover gowns, stethoscopes, and warm up jackets, to hospitals in four districts of the Northern Region.
The items were estimated at 232,156.75 dollars, and the beneficiary districts included Tolon, West Gonja, Zabzugu and Savelugu/Nanton Municipality.
Madam Benedicta Pealore, Operations Base Team Leader of WVG in Bolgatanga, presented the items on behalf of the National Director of WVG, to the Heads of Education and Health Services of the beneficiary districts at Savelugu.
Madam Pealore said “most school children in the beneficiary districts walk bare-footed to school daily,” a situation, which does not augur well for sound academic studies.
She said it was the expectation of WVG that “These pairs of shoes will motivate the school children not only to go to school regularly, but to concentrate and pay more attention to learning.”
She said medical facilities in the beneficiary districts needed to be supported, to give quality health care to children and their families, adding “It is our desire that these medical supplies will motivate the health officials to give that quality health care to the communities.”
Mr Alhassan Abdulai Red, Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu/Nanton, thanked WVG for the donation, saying the items were crucial in ensuring quality education and health care delivery in the beneficiary districts.
Dr James Sarkodie, Deputy Director in-charge of Clinical Care of the Northern Regional Health Directorate pointed out that “we cannot provide health services without logistics” adding that the medical supplies would augment other facilities, to ensure quality health care delivery in the beneficiary districts.
Madam Felicia Friko, West Gonja District Director of Education, said the items would help to improve quality of education in the deprived beneficiary districts.
