The National Security has intervened in the impasse over the ownership of portions of the Achimota forest.
There have been fierce confrontations between officials of the Forestry Commission and some police officers over the construction of a fence to protect the forest.
The Commission had begun the construction of the fence last Friday to prevent further encroachment on the reserve by an estate developer.
But their move was met with an order from the Accra Regional Police Command to stop the project.
The police officers who claim they were acting on orders of the Accra Regional Police Command also heckled some MPs who visited the Lands and Forestry Commission.
Starr News’ Emmanuel Gbikpo, who visited the area Wednesday, reported that the National Security has given the green light for the construction to continue.
Andy Osei Okrah, Head of Human Resource at the Forestry Commission, told Starr News that they are happy with the intervention by the National Security.
He added that the Forestry Commission’s land has reduced to 360 hectares from 495 hectares due to encroachment.
