Food vendors charged for selling in filth

Five food vendors who were found selling in a filthy environment have been fined GH¢ 240.00 each or in default three months imprisonment with hard labour by the Suhum Magistrate Court Presided over by, Ms Naomi Akwino.

The accused persons, Emma Nyanteh, Maami Abina, Hawa Mohammed, Bossey Nyanpri and Charles Affum who were charged for selling food in an insanitary environment pleaded guilty.

According to the prosecution, Senior Environmental Health Officer, Stephen Asante Kwadjo, the accused persons on several occasions had been warned about the filthy environment around where they sold food.

He said on November 14, 2014, Environmental Health Inspectors found refuse dumped indiscriminately at the area where the accused persons sold their food and all attempt made by the Environmental Officers to make the accused persons get rid of the refuse proved unsuccessful hence they were arrested and brought before the court.
