President John Dramani Mahama has charged newly sworn-in leader of Burkina Faso to embrace all parties in the formation of a transitional government.
Former Foreign Minister Michel Kafando was officially sworn in on Friday, November 21, 2014 in Ouagadougou, the capital city as Blaise Compaore’s replacement.
Lieutenant Colonel Yacouba Isaac Zida was also sworn in as Prime Minister.
The event was witnessed by some West African leaders including President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, who is also African Union Chairman, his predecessor at AU and Benin President Yayi Boni, Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Senegal’s Macky Sal.
Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) Mahama said the peace of the country can only be sustained if an all-inclusive government is formed.
Ghana’s northern neighbours are expected to go to the polls in November, 2015 to elect a substantive leader, following the ousting of Mr Compaore, who had attempted to extend his mandate.
United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative to West Africa Dr Mohammed Ibn-Chambas charged the new leader to ensure peace during the transitional period.
