Assembly Members Urged To Involve Community Leaders In Projects

Ashaiman, 7 Oct.,

Nii Armah Ashietey, Tema Municipal Chief Executive, today called on Assembly members, Parent/Teacher Associations (PTA’s), chiefs and opinion leaders to involve the municipal assembly when they want to execute community initiated projects. This, he said, will enable the assembly to offer the necessary technical advice and assistance to avoid production of shoddy work. Nii Ashietey made these remarks when he led the Assembly members to inspect projects initiated by the TMA last past year. He decried the poor quality work on a three-classroomed block of the Ashaiman school complex which was started by the PTA with financial support from the assembly. He said the assembly spends more money on repairs because of shoddy jobs and appealed to assemblymen to monitor projects being undertaken in their electoral areas. The chief executive ordered the demolition of a kiosk at the entrance of the school which is being used as a sleeping place by some unknown persons. He commended the Tema branch of the national mobilisation programme for building a six-classroomed block, with an office and store at Adjei Kojo, near Ashaiman, at a cost of 54 million cedis.
