Tamale, (Northern Region) 7 Oct., The Association of Community Water Boards in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions, in collaboration with the district assemblies, has contributed 200 million cedis to establish a fund to manage water supply and sanitation in their communities. The association, comprising 27 communities in the three regions, aims at promoting community-based management water supply and sanitation facilities. Addressing the mid-year review meeting of the association in Tamale on Monday, Mr A. M. Abukari, its president, said the water boards are now the main bodies managing water supply systems under the jurisdiction of the district assembly. He said this was part of a national strategy on community management of water and sanitation being coordinated by the sanitation and water division. He said seven communities, namely Jirapa, Tumu and Nandom in the Upper West region, Zebilla and Binaba-Kusanaba in the Upper East, and Saboba and Tinga in the Northern region, have taken over the supply and management of water supply from the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation.
