Workshop to enhance Women’s Affairs opens

Madam Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister, on Thursday said that poverty could only be eradicated if lot of investments would be made in the development of women and children.

The workshop, which was being sponsored by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), was aimed at equipping participants to serve as district coordinators of the Ministry.

Madam Horner-Sam said the government was committed to giving micro credit assistance to women to enable them to cater for their children and themselves.

She said the government would address issues that infringe on the rights of women and children and their holistic self-actualisation and development.

Madam Horner-Sam urged the participants to work closely with the Ministry after their national service to help advance the course of women and children.

Miss Fransisca Pobee-Hayford, Gender Advisor of the Ministry, said the workshop formed part of the Ministry and DANIDA Capacity Building Project.

She said the workshop was the second of four workshops planned for national service personnel serving with the Ministry.
