Farmer jailed for possessing narcotic drug

A circuit court in Dormaa – Ahenkro has sentenced Kwesi Nyankom, a 63–year –old farmer, to 10 years in prison in hard labour for illegal possession of narcotic drug.

Nyankom pleaded guilty.

Kofi Kanjaga, a security officer who is the second accused, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison custody to reappear in court on November 18.

The prosecutor, Inspector Abraham Oduro, told the court presided over by Mr. Ahmed Yusif Asibey that on November 2 a team of policemen in Dormaa –Ahenkro arrested the suspects at CMB Shed having in their possession dried leaves and seeds suspected to be cannabis.

The presiding judge ordered the exhibits to be seized from Nyankom be burnt in the presence of the police and the court registrar.
