UE Regional Minister catalogues Development Projects

The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr James Zuugah Tiigah, has praised the government for the development projects and programmes in the Region, saying it was an indication of its commitment to the welfare of the people.

The Regional Minister who made the observation during a Regional forum held in Bolgatanga, mentioned the rehabilitation of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital which is on-going and the selection of Garu –Tempane and the Talensi Districts for the construction of ultra-modern hospitals including CHPS compounds in all the Districts as some of the examples of ongoing development on the health front.

On Ebola, the Regional Minister said all the necessary precautionary measures have been put in place such as taskforce surveillance teams, emergency centres set up at Bolgatanga and Navrongo hospitals, as well as preparedness for personnel protection and other equipment. The Ghana Education Trust Fund, Mr Tiigah said also procured and distributed over 200 laptop computers to both private and public Senior High Schools in the Region.

On roads, he mentioned the rehabilitation of the Bolgatanga town roads including the Ministries road and as well as the Bolgatanga-Wikongo-Tongo and Navrongo, — Tono Junction roads.

Mr Tiigah indicated that majority of communities which hitherto had no electricity had been connected to the national grid under the Rural Electrification project, which was still ongoing to benefit the remaining communities.

The Regional Minister stated that under Water and Sanitation all the Districts were benefiting from the small town water supply system and boreholes under the Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project (SRWSP)

He stated that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) had been able to step up its monitoring, supervision and evaluation roles as well as building the capacity of staff with support from the European Union.

He gave the assurance that plans were far advanced to roll out more development projects that would make a greater impact on the livelihoods of the people.
