Takoradi NPP elects new executive

The Takoradi Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the weekend held its delegates congress at the Ahenfie Hotel in Takoradi. Sixty-five delegates voted for the 10 contested executive positions.

Mr Yaw Asante polled 32 votes to edge out the incumbent chairman, Abdul Mumuni, who had 31 votes, while Sampson Obeng was elected First Vice-Chairman with 35 votes.

The Second Vice-Chairman position was won unopposed by Samuel Quansah. Emos Brown, Justice Danquah and S.K. Adam polled 50, 33 and 34 votes respectively to become Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

The position of Youth Organiser was won by Ibrahim Sana with 33 votes, with Regina Boateng obtaining the same number of votes to clinch the post of Women?s Organiser.

The position of Assistant Women?s Organiser, which was contested unopposed, was won by Teresah Eshun, Kwame Aboagye also polled 30 votes to become Organiser. Later in an address, the Deputy Western Regional Minister, Ms Sophia Horner-Sam, advised the new executive to eschew pride and strive to promote unity in the party.

She said they have a responsibility to project the positive image of the NPP and live exemplary lives worthy of emulation by members. She urged the old executive to co-operate with the new executive and continue to serve the NPP.

The Minister for Women and Children?s Affairs, whose speech was read on her behalf, commended the congress for conducting successful elections. She urged the new executive to guard against complacency and strive to make themselves accessible.

The Regional Organiser of the party, Mr Kojo Acquah, commended the Takoradi Constituency for upholding the democratic principles of the party.
