Independence Day marked at Obuasi

A parade of school children, students, voluntary organisations, artisans and market women was held at the Len Clay stadium to mark the 46th Independence anniversary at Obuasi in the Adansi West district.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Joe Boampong, who took the salute noted that the theme for the anniversary “Peace and unity, vital pre-requisites for national development”, cannot be achieved if society did not frown on indiscipline.

He, therefore, called on Ghanaians to embrace the campaign for greater discipline so that as a nation “we can achieve peace and unity”.

Mr Boampong, however, observed that discipline alone cannot produce the manpower needs of the country and therefore, urged teachers to rededicate themselves to the profession by showing extra commitment through the effective use of instructional hours.

The DCE emphasised “after all a highly educated and disciplined human resource is a motivational tool for national growth and development”.

On maintenance of peace, Mr Boampong appealed to the media “to use their pen” to promote peace amongst the people since bad reporting had caused problems in some parts of the continent.

The parade, which was watched by a large crowd including Nana Assiama Guahyia Ababio, New Edubiasehene and acting President of Adansi Traditional Council, was under the command of Senior Cadet Rejoice Murphy of Obuasi Saint Philips Cadet Corps.
