Committee on Insurance Scheme inaugurated at Goaso

A 30-member working committee to prepare the grounds for the smooth take-off of the the Asunafo District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme in June this year was on Thursday inaugurated at Goaso.

Dr. Badu Sarkodie, Asunafo District Director of Health Services, who performed the ceremony said the scheme would be autonomous and devoid of religious, political or administrative interference.

He noted that the current political will and the need among Ghanaians were enough grounds for the smooth implementation of the scheme.

Dr Sarkodie said the 10 percent of Ghana’s annual budget dedicated to the provision of health care was insufficient and the situation placed more stress on the Ministry.

He expressed optimism that the current number of doctors at the district hospital and the numerous health facilities in the district would ensure the smooth running of the scheme.

Mr George Yaw Boakye, the District Chief Executive, advised members of the committee to work diligently to ensure maximum patronage of the scheme.
