Black Heritage Empowers Ladies in Wa

A youth based group Black heritage has organized a day’s workshop in the Upper West regional capital Wa to build the capacity of female students. The fully packed program included a health sensitization and screening session related to female diseases, career guidance and relationship issues.
Participants of the program were students of various Senior High Schools in Wa and ladies from University for Development Studies as Well. The theme of the conference ‘Women of substance’ sought to build up women with integrity and the willpower to succeed in this challenging gender order.
The guest speaker Madam Katherine Bob Millar, the national Director of the Department of Gender and social protection was at full throttle as she whipped up the enthusiasm of the ladies to succeeding in their various spheres of endeavor. She spoke extensively o the topic ‘The Role of Women in Academia and Political Leadership’. According to her a woman of substance must hold her morality supreme since society looks down of women with loose morals. She went further to outline mentorship and role modeling as important tools in carving out responsible and prosperous women.
According to the founder and CEO of Black Heritage, Opanin Sarpong Hammond, his outfit undertakes research to unearth the crucial problems in places at particular periods. The results he said informed their choice of projects to be embarked upon. He indicated that there are many projects he group is yet to unveil with one in rural communities he said five communities in Wa East district are going to benefit from their programs.
In an interview with a cross section of participants, they felt excited and encouraged by what they learnt during the seminar and were optimistic that many of such would open women up to the challenges of contemporary times. They were full of praises to the organizers of the program for being concerned about feminine issues.
