Govt provides four million dollars for cars for health personnel

Koforidua, Feb. 28, GNA – The government has provided four million dollars to be used as a revolving fund to provide private vehicles for health workers in the country.

Mr Simon Kwakye, Director of Internal Audit of the Ghana Health Service, announced this at the end of a two-day Eastern Regional Health Review Meeting and Regional Health Awards Day at Koforidua on Thursday. He said the Minister of Health, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie had given the assurance that health workers in the deprived areas would be given priority in the allocation of the vehicles.

Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira, Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, called on hospitals in the region to put in measures to improve upon their emergency response system.

He urged the government hospitals to link up with private hospitals around them to help improve upon access to health care in the region. Dr Appiah-Denkyira urged hospital administrators to openly display the patient’s charter in all hospitals in the region.

Tetteh Quashie Memorial Hospital at Mampong-Akuapem was adjudged the best managed hospital in the region for 2002 and was presented with a public address system and accessories. Birim North District was adjudged the best managed district and was awarded an executive swivel chair, a plaque and a certificate while the Kwesi Fanti community in the Afram Plains, was adjudged the best managed sub-district and was awarded a fridge.

The Koforidua Midwifery Training School won the best managed institution and was presented with a colour printer while Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital won the awar d for the best managed mission hospital and was presented with a fridge and Akuse Hospital received a fridge for being the most improved hospital.
