Party cards alone not qualification for jobs – UCF

The United Cadre Front (UCF), Volta Regional Branch, Tuesday stressed that political party membership card alone should not qualify one for appointments to political and public service offices in Ghana.

The group formed by associates of the June 4, 1979 and 31st December 1981 revolutions and usually sympathetic to the cause of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), made this remark in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

“It is performance, track-record, contributions, expertise and integrity that must determine whether that person is matured enough and therefore ready for a particular assignment or not,” the statement signed by Bright Amedjoe, Regional Chairman said.

It said “positions of trust whether elected or appointed are for service and not for personal aggrandizement”.

The two-and-half page statement touched on NDC issues and corruption in Ghana.

It urged delegates to the forthcoming NDC elections to elect people with attributes that would grow the Party.

The statement mentioned good demeanor, integrity, good track record and good human relations as some of those qualities.

It condemned the practice among party position seekers to influence delegates with money and other gifts and promises.

The statement also advised delegates to avoid putting people living away from their official posts into positions, as there were now too many absentee post holders.

It condemned happenings at the National Service Scheme, saying “it is a criminal matter and should therefore be dealt with the seriousness it deserves”.

The statement described as regrettable the alleged misconduct of Madam Lorreta Lamptey, Chief Executive of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) regarding high expenses on her accommodation.

It called for immediate investigations into the dealings of Ministries, Departments and Agencies and an overhaul of the public payroll operations.
