n Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday convicted four unemployed persons to a fine of 600,000 cedis each for ultering and possessing forged Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and General Certificate of Education (Ordinary level) for employment.
In default, they will each go to jail for 12 months with hard labour. Ebenezer Hammond, Stephen Yankey, both 26, Christopher Kwasi Toxla, 27, and Agama Daniel, 29, pleaded guilty.
The facts as presented by Inspector Joseph Hemeng are that last year, the convicts who had applied for jobs at the offices of the Births and Deaths Registry presented results slips and applications.
On February 20, this year, the convicts attended interviews at the Registry but the police arrested them on the grounds that they had forged their results.
Officials at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) confirmed that their certificates had been forged.
The prosecution said during interrogation, the convicts admitted the offence.
