Area Council asked to probe water toll

Mr Gustav Narh Dometey, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, has ordered the Asesewa Area Council to probe an allegation of 18 million cedis indebtedness of the people of Asesewa in respect of water toll and which has resulted to irregular supply of water.

Giving the order at the joint-inauguration of the 19-member Asesewa Area Council and Unit Committees at Asesewa in the Manya Krobo District on Monday, he warned that any member of the local Water Board found to have embezzled the amount would be made to face the full rigours of the law.

Mr Dometey said the Asesewa-Akateng road was to be tarred this year while the Community Day Secondary School would be provided with a girls’ dormitory and staff bungalows.

On the request for a separate district for the Upper Manya with Asesewa as the capital, he appealed to the people to be patient while the District Boundary Demarcation Commission considered the issue.

Mr Dormetey said the Volta River Authority (VRA) was to provide Anyaboni with a community centre as part of its development projects to resettle communities along the Volta Lake.

In his inaugural address, Mr Andrews Teye, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Manya Krobo, urged members of the two bodies to hold themselves accountable to the people.

He asked them to use dialogue to settle any differences and recognise the role of chiefs in the mobilisation of the people for communal labour and not to arrogate to themselves powers they did not have under the law.
