A former head of the National Service Scheme, (NSS) Boniface Agambila, has blamed one of his successors, Vincent Kuagbenu, for the recent corruption scandal that hit the Scheme.
According to Agambila, Kuagbenu acted alone during his tenure because of the bad rapport that existed between him and the board.
The Scheme has been engulfed in a corruption scandal involving the payment of 7.9 million Cedis to non-existent service persons, a situation which has led to the removal of Alhaji Alhassan Imoro as head of the scheme.
Kuagbenu in an earlier interview with an Accra-based radio station Joy FM said he had no role to play in the current rot that has been uncovered at the scheme.
But speaking to Starr Today Monday, Agambila said Kuagbenu instituted “fraudulent mechanisms” at the scheme during his tenure.
“Vincent Kuagbenu, the former director messed up, he had no respect for the board, didn’t work well with the board and so things went wayward. He came and instituted this fraudulent mechanism and Imoro [Alhassan] too came to inherit it”, Agambila insisted.
Agambila, however, advised the newly appointed acting head of the scheme, Dr. Michael Kpessa Whyte to develop a cordial relationship with the board and staff of the scheme.
“If Kpessa Whyte is coming in, he should listen to the board and work with the board and even the rest of the staff.”
