The Minister of Roads and Transport, Dr Richard Anane, has said that arrangements are underway to introduce road patrol units on the country’s roads to ensure that all road users comply with road safety regulations.
Dr Anane who made this known when answering questions in Parliament said his ministry is consulting with the National Road Safety Commission and the Driver and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA) on the way to go about it.
Apparently touched by the spate of fatal road accidents in recent times, which has claimed the lives of two MPs, Mike Gizo, MP for Shai Osudoku. Gizo said most road markings have been inherited from the colonial era and are not conspicuous enough to serve as warning signals to road users.
Dr Anane said a systematic approach would be used to ensure that properly illuminated road signs are provided, especially on the highways.
