Mr Alex Amoabeng, Nkoranza district director of education has warned that candidates for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) who refuse to attend classes after being registered would not be allowed to take the examination.
He said the measure, meant to stop the practice, which is reported to be common among students in the area, was also to ensure that records in the schools were not dented with unwarranted failures.
The district director was addressing a meeting of headmasters of junior secondary schools in Nkoranza on the organization of extra classes to enable the students to obtain good grades in the examination.
Under the programme, all the final year students would be grouped at a centre where the various subject masters would handle them in turns.
Mr Amoabeng said he would meet and inform the parents of the candidates about the new arrangement for the extra classes to be held on Saturdays between 0900 hours and 1500 hours.
He urged the teachers to work harder to fine-tune the candidates to perform creditably in the examination.
Mr Osei Kuffour, chairman of Nkoranza basic schools heads association, advised parents to monitor their children’s activities to ensure that they studied at home.
He appealed to the teachers to work to ensure the success of the extra classes to attain better standards in the schools.
