Accommodation, borehole for teachers at Ayeasu-Asarekrom

The Techiman Municipal Assembly in the Brong Ahafo Region, as part of its policies to reduce teacher’s absenteeism, lateness to work and to attract teachers to stay in the rural areas, have started rolling out measures to this effects. One of such measures is the provision of a two-bedroom accommodation and a mechanized borehole for teachers in the Ayeasu-Asarekrom, a suburb of Techiman.

Mr. Phillip Oppong Amponsah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), in his speech to commission the facility which is funded under the Urban Development Grant (UDG), said it would reduce teacher’s absenteeism and lateness to work especially those staying out the community. He also said the borehole would reduce the perennial water problem in the area, and the time use in looking for water instead of teaching and/or learning.

The accommodation facility was constructed at the cost of GH¢49,691.84. Other facilities include a kitchen, bathroom and a KVIP. Also, the mechanized pumping borehole has been installed at the cost of GH¢19,928.00 to provide the teachers and the community with potable drinking water.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Techiman South, Mr. Adjei Mensah, advised parents to send their children to school to benefit from more government policies.

Mr. Godfred Axolu, the Municipal Education Director for Techiman, commended the MCE and the Government for the two facilities. He assured the MCE that the facilities would be put into maximum.

Mr. Axolu appealed to the MCE and government for a Junior High School (JHS) to help reduce school dropout in the area.

He said students walk between 3km to 4km to attend the only nearby JHS at Nkwaeso. He also appealed for school feeding to be extended in the area.

Nana Kwadwo Yeboah, the Chief of Adieso, thanked the MCE and appealed to government to open up roads in the areas to enable them transport their farm produce.
