AFAG’s Gaffe: Governor never stayed in any hotel

Political Non-Governmental Organizations NGOs need money to support their activities.

The more noise they make; the more they can justify their funding.

It is in this regard that, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has obviously lied against the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah.

The fib was that, he (Wampah) has incurred huge expenses staying in a hotel accommodation since his appointment as Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

AFAG, wanting to justify why they should continue to be funded by their political paymasters, claimed that the Central Bank Governor has been paying US$350,000 from June 2012 to September 2014, as the cost of his hotel accommodation since assumption of office.

In a blatant lie, AFAG in a statement alleged that Dr. Wampah has been paying US$12,500 a month for the use of the facility as his residence.

Contrary to that claim, credible checks conducted by The Informer revealed that the Governor still leaves in the official accommodation provided him by the state as deputy Governor of the Central Bank, rather than what AFAG wants Ghanaians to believe.

According to this paper’s in-depth investigations, Dr. Kofi Wampah has never stayed in any hotel accommodation since his elevation to the position of Governor of the Central Bank.

The Informer will not overlook acts of government appointees that would be of financial drain to the state; but, would not support lies by individuals and, or civil society organizations aimed at tarnishing the hard-won reputation of public officials let alone the Governor of the Central Bank.

On this note, we urge NGOs to be more circumspect and not rush to town with lies.
